The tie replacement train has been working along the R3, and I checked it out from the bridge by Dana this afternoon. It's really cool. The new ties have been lined up along side the track. The train lifts up the track and slides the old tie out, dislodging the rail supports mounted to it in the process. The machine then takes the new tie and slides it back into place. Presumably a crew comes by later to reattach the rail to the new tie.
