When we last saw our hero, he was deep in the midst of writing his E57 Case Study. Anywho...

I finished the E57 around 1.30. I putzed around until 2, then started on my E90 proposal. I realized that I was awfully tired, and, given my recent sleep paterns, sleeping then and setting the alarm early would result in more sleep and productive work then working and the sleeping. So I futzed around with my Gantt diagram until 3 and then went to bed, setting my alarm for 7.15.

I roll over, notice light coming through the windows. I look at my watch. 7.10. I win. Had I worked until 4 and then gone to bed...yeah, it wouldn't have been pretty. Anyway, I get out of bed and go back to work. I get ready for class, and catch the 9.10 shuttle for the first time in a few weeks (thank goodness for the 9.20). Class (E57) is presentations, so I don't actually need to be awake. During class, I notice that I've made two mistakes in the appendix of my case study. I wrote Seattle twice instead of Texas and I wrote MATLAB code instead of AMPL code. After class I get whiteout from Holly and make the corrections. Next time, remind me to always copy papers to my userfolder, so I can make these changes. This takes about 10 minutes, I should point out.

I now go to finish my E90 proposal. At 11, I'm done. Baggins is jammed. I should point out at this point that the train to UPenn for train class is at 11.11. After a few minutes of searching for paper, I print to Beardsley. I run to Beardsley, nearly kill myself half-falling (I stay on my feet) down the wet steps, and get to the public area to collect my printout. Three pages are done. I mutter something about not having time for this. Did I mention I'm still feeling the adrenaline from almost killing myself. Katie is working on a computer, asks if everything is alright. Of course everything is alright. I just should have known that the two pages of pictures would take a long time to spool. Printing finally finishes, I look at watch, it's 11.10. The train is usually a few minutes late, but it's still not enough time. I hand in the proposal. I check the 109 and the 101 schedules. The 101 leaves the mall at 11.17 and 11.47. I can't get to Springfield mall in 5 minutes. The 109 is at Swarthmore Station at 11.18 and at the mall at 11.24. It also doesn't get to 69th St. until 12. Did I mention I really don't like riding the 109 because it takes forever. Anyway, for a class at 33rd/Walnut starting at 12, both of these options are too late. If Vuchic were teaching, I'd be ok coming in late, but with a guest speaker, it just doesn't seem right.

My plan for the 3.5 hours I'm saving by not going to Penn is to do a little Music 10 reading before lunch, sleep for 2 hours or so, finish the music 10 stuff/start copying music for Tony, go to music 10, get dinner, do orchestra and copy music while I'm there, finish music for tony, and then go to bed. Joel has just given me an assignment for Music 10 - it might get done. Ives for Music 22 also might happen somewhere along the way this afternoon - we'll see.

As I remarked to Chris J-S last night, I'd much rather have a series of short papers (1-2) due periodically over a span of time rather than one big paper due at the end of the semester. But maybe that's just me and my work ethic (what's that you say?) speaking.

There are so many factors that went into me missing my train (only the second one in a year - the other was for a 9 AM early session, so I caught the next peak train and only was about 10 minutes late, any way I rolled the dice this time I was going to be 30-45 mins late for a 90 minute class, just not worth it) that I'm not going to dwell on it. The typos in E57, Baggins being jammed, me putting work off to the last minute, me procrastinating while working rather than working straight through, you get the idea. I only have to go in three more times, 2 more classes and the final, so I'm not too concerned. And ooh, shiny, I get to ride the express in to the final. This makes me happy.

Tune in Sunday when our hero writes his final paper for trains class, which should kill him extra dead. Whee!
