From the way this city grumbled, it's a little hard to believe the improvements made over the last eight years. But this team hasn't won a championship in 25 years, the city hasn't seen a champion in 22, and the team hasn't been to the playoffs in 12 years (gah, I first made those calculations as if it were 2003). In 1997, this team was terrible, and had been for several years. This team has been in contention for the last few years. However, once they got into contention, they never took the next step, and this team has done nothing but spin its wheels for the next few years. A few big splashes, but they never could get out of the kiddie pool. Right now, I think the core of the team is mostly in place, probably one big piece and a few small pieces missing, and hopefully a new set of eyes will realize this and quickly make the necessary changes.

Adios Mr. Wade, you made some big changes, but you couldn't get it done in the end, and that's just not acceptable in this town.

Please recall that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers fired coach Tony Dungy for only getting to the NFC Championship game, after being the winningest coach in Buccaneers history. The D-Rays are perennially terrible, but who are they going to be able to get who has a better record than Lou Pinella?
