Nov. 15th, 2005 06:34 pmExcuse me? Why are you throwing the ball when you've got over 150 rushng yards for the game, have held the other team to under 250 total yards, 58 of which came on one play early, and there are less than three minutes in the game and the other team has only two time outs left? And it's second down? Simply inexcusable.
And, having already screwed up once, why not call a time out before the two-minute warning before punting? There's no real risk of having the punt play run into the two minute warning. 55 seconds elapsed between the second time out and the end of the punt. Assuming the same timings, calling a timeout before the punt gives the Eagles the ball back at 1:05, not :45. That gives that last drive an extra 20 seconds.
After looking so good for most of the night, it all comes unraveled in the end. I don't know how else to say it, but running = winning. That should have been evident after the first half, after the first three quarters, after the first 55 minutes of football.
Sorry Andy, your time management sucked last night, and it always has. As has your play calling under pressure.
I'm starting to wonder if it isn't time to begin the Jim Johnson era.
