BANG! FLASH. Oh look, the lights are out and train is slowing down.

Two and a half hours later, I get to work. Whee! Apparently, the biggest part of the delay was 'grounding the train', whatever that means.

Ick; that's annoying. Could they have meant something about electrical grounding (to prevent electrocution, etc.)? (says she who knows next to nothing about this)

That's exactly what they meant. It's the premise of it that I find entertaining.

I sort of fail to see how a train could be not grounded, given that it is made of metal, with metal wheels, resting on metal tracks, which are attached to the Earth. Is it that the electrical systems, which are presumably insulated from the rest of the train, needed to be grounded or something?

I think I over heard some people talking about wires wrapped around the train, so presumably they meant making the train safe, not necessarily physically grounding the train. Typically, one of the rails isn't grounded. In the old days, the train would ground it to the other rail, and this was used to activate signals. Nowadays, I think that rail is more used for data, such as maximum track speed.

I imagine it means something along the lines of:

OMG whatever you do DO NOT exit that train!!
