Nettwerk aides defendent against RIAA
Jan. 28th, 2006 08:39 amCanadian music label Nettwerk has stepped forward and is willing to pay defense costs and, if they lose, the penalty, for a family sued by the RIAA. Quoth the CEO: "Litigation is not 'artist development.' Litigation is a deterrent to creativity and passion and it is hurting the business I love. The current actions of the RIAA are not in my artists' best interests." Nettwerk isn't a major label, but they manage a bunch of big-name artists (Avril, BNL, Sarah McLachlan) and have a bunch of really cool people (Abigail Washburn, Amy Correia, Erin McKeown, Neil Finn, OCMS) who are actually on the label. This makes me feel all warm and fuzzy, but I know it isn't going to change anything.
