Structural Failure
Jan. 30th, 2006 09:11 pmThe structural integrity of my laptop is now questionable. A while back, the casing popped at the left rear, such that the strip of plastic above the keyboard was loose at that corner. This evening, the right hinge failed. The aforementioned strip of plastic can come completely off, revealing some PCBs and part of the cooling apparatus. More worriesome is that the screen is now very floppy and does not hold in position. It may be time to accellerate the desktop plan, which is, on second thought, doable in this environment.
Cleaning off the desk would be a good thing. Putting an LCD on my bedside table is not a good solution. Running Cat5 across my room would be an acceptable compromise, or I could invest in a PCI wireless card. In the meantime, I'll continue to investigate various seating configurations. Or...I could clean off my desk now, put the laptop on it, and prop up the lid. I am so clever.
An interesting side effect of this evenings events is that the fans seem to be running more or less continiously. I will need to investigate this further.
