Even though I theoretically hate horse racing, I still find that offensive. Or maybe I just really hate corporate sponsorships of big traditional events...
I totally agree about hating corporate sponsorships of this sort.
I don't hate horse racing, I just don't understand why millions of people are glued to their televisions to watch a, what, 90-second race with at least three hours of talking-head coverage before and after, and weeks of newspaper articles beforehand.... It's ... pointless. Isn't it?
I've owned two former racehorses, and ridden/worked with countless others. Trust me, (despite the fact that it does supply the public with thoroughbreds at a low cost) when I say I have good reason to hate horse racing.
Those horses are run before they are fully grown, their joints haven't closed yet and their legs are exceedingly fragile. Even the best, most ethical and talented trainers are still running horses far to young. Any sport where a horse is used up by age 5 (and that's considered late) can't be healthy for the animal. It's basically like expecting a 6 or 7 year old child to go out an run a marathon.
