What's at the car show? I've never really grokked the idea, but then I've never really looked past the name either. The flower show certainly surprised me when I went last year.
I went to the Detroit car show last year, and it was pretty interesting. It had things like hydrogen cars and electric cars, and fancy sports cars and luxury cars. Basically, the sorts of things most people at the show would never be able to afford to sit in otherwise (and you were allowed in many of the cars), but by the same car companies that also make cheap cars, so it's a good advertising gimmick. It was very interesting to see the new technologies, and what you could have even now if you were very rich.
Interesting. I think I'll pass, though--sounds like it would be (for me) rather demoralizing. And the subtle (or not-so-subtle) commercialism sounds uncomfortable. The flower show, by contrast, is largely horticultural art on a grand scale; and then there's a large vendor section where you can buy, for instance, two dozen roses for $10 (the same, or better, quality roses that one could buy this week at the Swarthmore Flower Shop for $150--they mailed me an advertisment, but L and I discussed it and decided that despite their "is your love worth it?" taunts, it wasn't worth that!).
