Things I'm considering, in no particular order:

Johnny Cash - Unearthed
5 discs worth of material from the last 10 years - can you say awesome? Some originals, but the covers are phenomenal. NIN's Hurt (originally from American Recordings IV) is worth the price of admission alone - I think it's more powerful than Dar's Comfortably Numb (another member of the unlikely cover's club). By all means, check it out. There's probably a song or five on here that you know, and Cash, often just armed with an acoustic, demonstrates some serious universal appeal.

Josh Joplin - Jaywalker
He's dropped the band from the name, but it's still pretty much there, although the iTunes snippets sound less forced than Future that Was did. It seems that the songwriting is better too, but it's hard to tell.

Leo Kottke and Mike Gordon - Clone
They have a new album out, but that's got copy protection on it. Besides, this one sounds pretty good.

John Hiatt - Live from Austin Texas
Yes please. Sounds like the band really hot when it gets going. Has all three of the older songs of his that I know (Memphis in the Meantime, Thing Called Love, Tennessee Plates). I think I've always liked the way he does Thing Called Love better than Bonnie Raitt - she makes it sound kinda effortless, whereas you can hear John Hiatt straining to sing his own song, and it makes the song stronger.

Sinead O'Connor - Throw Down Your Arms
I'm less sure about this than the others. I've never been terribly fond of O'Connor, and the album feels gimicky - it's an album of reggae covers. But there's something strangly charming about Reggae with an Irish accent, but I ultimately think this album is a one-song album (Downpressor Man), and I'm better off putting together the mix album of 'the reggae songs I like' and including Downpressor Man on it.

I think that's it, although it inevitably won't be. I'd happily listen to recommendations if you've got 'em, either based on the above or what else you know about my musical taste.

EDIT: Right, that didn't take long. Son Volt's Okemah and the Melody of Riot, or Trace, or perhaps both.
