Voting for me went ok. There were two precincts at LMHS. Having not received a voter ID card in the mail, I didn't know which one. I tried the one closer to the door, no luck. At the other precinct, I was not in the bound poll book with the spots for signatures and things, but I was on the list of names and addresses that the judge had. There was space in the back of the poll book for name, address, DOB, signature for people like me. I then was cleared to go to the machine. The judge was on his cell phone. As I'm halfway through voting, I hear him say to put my info in the back of the poll book.

Boy, I'm sure glad our local election officials are well trained. Also, you'll note that in the above description, I never show ID, which is, I believe, required by PA law of citizens voting for the first time in a precinct. Oops.

And let it also be known that I'm not a fan of the voting machines in MontCo. Bring back the levers!

I've never had to show ID to vote (although I've never voted in PA).

The same thing happened to me with the polling places, except the two were half a block apart, on a busy street, at rush hour, so it took several minutes to get from one to the other.

I did have to show id, for my first time at this location today.
There weren't any real machines though. I had to fill out a scantron type thing, then drop it into the reader thingy. It felt weird.

humm.. i don't get to vote in your continent but i'd so much rather press a button, pull a leaver than handwrite a canidate's name on a slip of paper.

Yes, japan the country with one of the most advanced technology around forces voters to handwrite the name of canidates onto a slip of (i think recycled) paper.

Maybe they have special scantrans that would then decode the scribbles.

and as for ID, you bring a postcard with your name and address (mailed to wherever you are registerd at) to the polling place (map and address on postcard, how convient)

But i really don't recall having to show any form of ID (i brought my passport just in case) rather than recite the date of birth and few other info that only I would know.

Handwriting a candidate's name is less painful in Latin script than kanji, though.

(Says me, who needed a cheat sheet to write my own name in kanji.)

Actually, I think it is, but I can't be sure because I can't make out all the details in the first character. But it looks right.

They don't have levers in DelCo, now, either. Sigh.

I sort of like the machines, what's your issue with them? (I'm not sure how long we've had them - certainly since I started voting.)
