No, I don't know why. But why not?

Of course there's a picture of [livejournal.com profile] sinsofthedove doing something silly, why do you ask?

There was a song associated with this, but that's irrelevant.

A rare sighting indeed.

Ivory soap that's been microwaved for roughly five minutes.

Videos, in .mov format (files may be large):

I don't know what's happening here

This is a CD in a microwave.

I think this is a toothpick which has been lit on fire, but it could be a lightbulb, I forget.

Important (well, maybe, maybe not...) correction: That's *Ivory* soap in the microwave, not Dove soap... (Remember that apparently, the reason that only Ivory does that is from the same property that makes only Ivory soap float...)

how much soap to how much water? Does this mean i can make foam to wash my face (wash off makeup etc) on my own than buying expensive foam-making sponges and stuff?

No water needed--just stick the bar of soap in the microwave and watch it expand... Of course, at least if it is only Ivory soap that does this, I'm not sure that you'd WANT to use it to wash your face... (My parents use Ivory soap, but I stopped using it in high school when it started bothering my skin...and it is kind of crappy soap... Actually, is Ivory soap even available in Japan??) The foam also has sort of a weird consistency for actually using it... But hey, I guess it couldn't hurt to try it...

I think Ivory had the idea originally, but it was adopted by Dove and other soaps. Do those soaps *not* float? I wouldn't know, I'm a shower person.

Yeah, that's what I thought, too. I thought all the relatively expensive bar soaps, including Dove, both float and expand in a microwave.

Hmm...I'm pretty sure that Dove doesn't float, but...I haven't systematically tested this... (Actually, Dove soap in particular feels heavier than most soaps, I think...) Like I said to Sayaka above, Ivory is actually pretty crappy soap, and that could be at least partly related to it being lightweight...which would argue for other soaps not being made that way...

Hey, cool, you got the "plasma balls from a burning toothpick" trick to work! Didn't Jim try it last time and achieve distinctly unsatisfactory results?
