As I'm arriving at the train station this morning:

"Attention, R5 passengers, the next train to, Center City Philadelphia, is running approximately, eight minutes, behind schedule."

Repeat three-and-a-half times.

Two minutes go by.

"Attention, please disregard the previous announcement."

The train is, at this point, about four minutes late.

A few minutes later, I can see the train lights at Haverford.

"Attention, R5 passengers, the next train to, Center City Philadelphia, is running approximately, eight minutes, behind schedule."

The train leaves Haverford.

"Attention, please disregard the previous announcement. All SEPTA trains are running on or close to schedule"

The train pulls into the station. Eight minutes late.

They were counting on the train making up two minutes and one second of lost time between Bryn Mawr and Ardmore, so that it would be only five minutes, fifty-nine seconds late on schedule?

Our trains are running on schedule. Our trains have always been running on schedule.

wow.. part of me miss that kind of laid-back attitude in trains... If a train is 8min late here, there would be a riot.. and the people would be rushing to the subway etc. Or the train company would be forced to provide bus or something. I've noticed a new LCD sign board that indicates 'Line x is running behind schedule, you may take subway a, b, to get to your destination'

of course.. people don't jump tracks nearly as much in PA as they do here..

It would be funny if the "please disregard" announcements were in a different voice. I imagine two people fighting over the microphone, one trying to warn that the train is late, and the other saying that the train is on time!
