Is it just me, or is post-rock just a term made up by hipsters to avoid saddling their bands of choice with the pretentiousness and baggage of what it really is: prog rock?

Why yes, I did get some new tracks from Emusic today. Including the charming and lovely "Tiger, My Friend" by the less-charmingly named Psapp. No, it's not prog, but I did download a couple of interesting albums that are (the last thing I'm trying to do here is claim that prog is a bad thing).

I think there is some truth to that about post-rock vs. prog. Certainly most of the post-rock stuff is proggy, yet a lot of it is also a bit different like godspeed you black emperor and sigur ros. But there is certainly a connection. What prog stuff did you get? I can probably give some emusic prog recs, though my info is a bit out of date.

I picked up the latest from Explosions in the Sky (All of a Sudden I Miss Everyone) and Sigur Ros (Hvarf-Heim). I've only listened to each one once so far.

So the albums that you downloaded were actually the post-rock ones?
Haven't heard of Explosions but they could be kinda interesting. I guess I'm just more into vocal oriented stuff lately though.
