It would be really nice to have a set of measuring spoons that didn't fit in the garbage disposal.

Though, to be fair, the 1/2 t measure didn't really get mangled at all - the disposal wasn't on long enough to do that.

Got a Microplane grater. It's awesome.

Oh, noes. Y'know, if any of us actually manage to kill ourselves in an embarassing freak household accident, it'll almost certainly involve that garbage disposal converting itself into rapidly expanding shrapnel.

See, this is why you should not have a garbage disposal. Or a dishwasher. Or hot water at temperatures between ice and boiling. Or enough cabinets for all your dishes.

you should put a strainer on top of the drain. Its cheap and available in chinatown or other places. It should look like this

Granted, you can also get a new set of measuring spoons at bed bath and beyond at around $5. Oh and i think the strainer is available there too.

This one has wider mouth so there is no way it falls down the disposal.

To be honest, it'd be much less likely for the measuring spoons to disappear into the belly of the beast if we'd just keep them as a set by using the metal ring that they came with...

You can make your own set of measuring spoons that won't fit in the garbage disposal yourself, using Krazy Glue, a set of ordinary measuring spoons, and several unwanted shoes.

Second the point about ravenousness. It's not something we like to talk about, but we had a fifth housemate lined up for a while, but there were some awkward moments in the early days, trying to fit all five of us into four rooms. The garbage disposal sort of inadvertently ended these negotiations.

I'm personally waiting for me to drop my retainers in the disposal by accident one morning.


How's the microplane? I thought about it, but didn't get one because it looked to hard to clean.

Microplane = amazing. I only have the fine one, for zesting and hard cheese. It's much easier to clean than the box grater because there's no metal that sticks up from the holes and it only cuts one way, so you can run a sponge over it no problem.
