May. 14th, 2008 07:56 pmVerizon "accidentally" canceled DSL service this morning. They sent all internet requests to a walled garden, which was asking for a user name and password. On a website with a bad security certificate and no graphics that would load. It may have been legit, but I dealt with this over the phone (also, this meant I could deal with it while driving to work - hands free, don't worry). Things should be back to normal by Saturday. It's for times like these that we keep around a few neighbors with unprotected wireless.
Wireless. That's funny. I have a USB wireless thing (ok, it's my brother's). Linux compatibility was surprisingly easy - once I downloaded a few packages from the Windows side and used dpkg -i (and didn't have to go back for any dependencies - go me!). apt-get doesn't really cut it without an internet connection (but is great otherwise). This may be the strongest argument I've found for keeping a Windows partition around - hardware compatibility - odds are I can go elsewhere and download the driver file I need in 30 seconds. Hunting for a howto, three packages, and a half-dozen dependencies is best done with lots of free time (did I mention how shocked I am that it worked the first time - I hope I don't have to reboot between now and Saturday).
Deepest Sender still doesn't work in Firefox 3. Grawr.
The first half of the new 97s album is so-so, but the second half is great.
