I find it very hard to get a sense of how small it is from pictures, mainly because it's so well proportioned. Maybe these shots will help.

It's proportioned really well. Like I said, I find it hard to tell how small it is in pictures. But believe you me, it's small. Probably too small to be an everyday machine for anything other than e-mail and internet.

nifty. I saw the 2GB one for like $250 at BJ's, but those specs seem a lot less usable.

Yeah. It's essentially the same size, but with a smaller screen (larger bezel), less RAM, less hard drive, less battery, less processor. If you can find a good deal on a 4G (not surf) or 8G, it might be worth it, but they're releasing so many models that if you can hold out a little bit, they'll probably drop in price.
