Basic Ubuntu functionality is a go. I still need to configure the wired ethernet port, get a music player working. I need to tweak the imap certificate on my desktop (and probably set it to a static IP address). Also I should set up samba. I should find a remotely usable SMTP server. I need to find the icon for thunderbird. I haven't touched the appearances/UI settings yet. I should see about power management.

I need to readjust to typing with a touchpad under my hands, so I'm not constantly hitting it and relocating the cursor.

I need to remap the right-shift key, or just get used to it.

Most importantly, I need to get some sleep.

Using the netbook remix, or one of the fuller-featured ones?

Was Xandros just not up to snuff, or what? (Note that I have never used Xandros for anything.)

I believe the phrase "Xandros is crap" might be something evolutionists and creationists could agree on...a universal truth. I can't say why as whenever you ask someone who know that is the response you get.

Although, it makes me wonder...someone needs to do the Mojave thing that Microsoft did last week with Xandros.

Xandros was like Linux with training wheels. And somebody pushing, so you didn't need to pedal. Which is good, because there aren't pedals. Supposedly, large chunks of it are marked read-only, so installing updates requires writing new data to disk, instead of replacing the existing data. Which is no good when you have very limited hard drive availability. It's less work to get Ubuntu up and running than to learn a new interface.
