Does it bother anyone else that some of the food bits being sold here can't be produced in the game? A ham or a steak would be better, but probably harder to shape definitively (maybe go with a chop?). Bacon-shaped wooden bits would be awesome!

Of course, these bother me less than the cardboard chits they give you in the game. Every other resource is made out of wood - would it have broken the budget to use, say, pink disks for food? Or would that have been too Caylus-like?

I definitely want a set of animeeples, but I don't know that I want to go down the full replacement path.

Absolutely. Did you follow the link to the pizza of catan? Cute, but messy.

I'd be up for a similar project at some point, though I'm not sure cupcakes are my media of choice. I think a cookie board would be easier to work with, then use mini cupcakes for settlements and cities (or maybe mini cookies for settlements and mini cupcakes for cities).

But with Settlers you don't get to eat them until the game is over. In a wargame where units are removed from play when defeated, you could eat them throughout... I'm vaguely plotting a simplified variant of Titan for this express purpose.
