Not only does my local mega-mart still have Hamentaschen on display, but the posted expiration date is 4/20/09. As in after Passover.

Does this seem wrong to anyone else?

You can buy hamentaschen? That's definitely weird.

Less wrong than not kosher for Passover matzah?

I would totally join this league. Despite the fact that I am firmly in the latke camp.

That said, I also like matzah; basically, I buy the five-pound brick when it goes on sale two weeks before passover (around here, for some strange reason, you cannot buy matzah _during_ passover, so if you don't buy early, you don't get any), and I'll get through two boxes at least before passover actually begins.

Heh. I LOVE matzah - I think it's delicious - but it has never occurred to me to eat it outside of Passover. Passover has been one of my favorite holidays since childhood, and I imagine that part of the reason is that it's a special treat, the only week in the entire year that I get to eat this great food.

OTOH, I imagine that another part of the reason is that I don't actually keep kosher for Passover in any rigorous way and thus have a lot more variety in my diet than people who really do rely heavily on only eating matzah :).

Also, because you're a freak.

Clearly not as much of one as you might think, though, given the existence of a sufficient population of people eating matzah outside of Passover to sustain a market for not-kosher-for-Passover matzah!

I actually suppose I should have previously realized that this population exists, given that the local supermarkets do sell matzah year-round. But I guess I never really thought about it and possibly harbored a (completely irrational) sense that the supermarkets just kept the leftover matzah on the shelf in from year to year. After all, there's been an unopened box of matzah lying around in my house for at least nine months now, and one assumes longer than that, but no one's ever bothered to open it. It's not Passover yet!

It doesn't ever go bad.

Right, hence the box that we haven't opened in ten+ months.

I have a vague sense I've heard of the communion matzah before. . . not necessarily the Christian seders, though.

I remember how exciting it was back in grade school when Easter and Passover were far enough apart for there to be two spring vacations! That was awesome, though not as frequent as I would have liked ;-). It looks like the next time that's happening is in 2016?

Wow, that's...interesting, but somewhat creepy...

This reminds me of the girl when I was in high school who was very friendly towards me because I was prominently Jewish more than anybody else in the school. But she and I weren't actually friends at all on a personal level--it just seemed like her religion had led her to be very nice to, and be curious about, Jews as a group... So it ended up being fairly creepy...

then again, I still have five or six in a box in the freezer. Better eat them before Wednesday night, I guess.
