Sep. 16th, 2010 10:22 pmSo I dropped my car off this morning at the mechanic around the corner and walked to the train. The plan was to leave the office at 4.30, catch the 4.44 express, and pick up the car by 5.30. I got a call from my boss at 4.15 with something that needed to get done, at 4.35 I was mostly done and got an e-mail from someone else. By the time I dashed off a quick answer to that and wrapped up everything else, it was 4.45. I missed the 4.50 local. I spent a few minutes trying to think of alternate options (CHE to 94/134, NOR to 98), decided none of them were an improvement, and just waited for the 5.17 express. Oh, and I called the mechanic to say I'd be running late.
About five minutes out from Fort Washington I have the realization that the 98 might get me to the mechanic a few minutes earlier and save me some walking in the rain. So I get off there instead of at Ambler at 5.47 for a 5.50 bus and wait at the bus stop by the station. I see a SEPTA bus go by on Pennsylvania Ave, and then about five minutes later a 201 pulls in. I had noticed that the stop only called out the 134 and 201. At this point, I assume that I've missed the 98 because it doesn't actually pull into the train station (why?) and give up and call
sylvansafekeepe for a ride. I get to the mechanic at 10 after 6, where I pick up my car with no problems. Oh, and he mentions that he has a dead car to pick up at the gas station next to the Ambler train station and that if he had thought of it, he would have offered to just pick me up there.
Sigh. It was just one of those days.
