Did it not occur to anyone designing that building that a concave mirror focuses light? I mean, obviously it didn't occur to them, but...

Maybe it was designed by one of those companies with more social cachet and less engineering/physics/high school science;-) knowledge?

Good thing it wasn't an 80s Corvette; there'd be nothing left! (They melted in moderate sun with no concave lenses around)

This is the second time a Rafael Viñoly building has had this problem; the Vdara hotel in Las Vegas is also a parabolic reflector facing concave-south. It opened December 2009, and as the sun moves across the sky over the course of a day, the focus point sweeps across the pool area.

At least London has the excuse of only having a handful of days of direct sunlight every year.
