Puckers. I'm chasing someone (Anna?) back into our zone. She's a much better skater than I am, but I think I do what's necessary to keep her from scoring. But I'm skating too fast. I go down around the goal line and quickly into the boards. Right skate hits on the blade, left skate on my toes. One of these things isn't a problem, one of them is. As I just told
crystalpyramid, I think the line from my left toes to me left knee was straight and tangent to my leg. As the subject line says, Ow. I get up. This is a bad idea. I get helped over to the far bench (being the bench at the far end of the podunk rink where we skate). A few seconds pass and I realize that I'm in shock and very cold, and that getting into the lobby where it's warm would be good. So we scream at A line to stop, which they do, and folks help me over to the waiting room, where I take off my skate (which
trinfinity2001 later tells me I should have left on, to keep things rigid and non-swelling, but too late, once off, it wasn't going back on). There's some pain involved. I grimace and deal until puckers ends, then
uncleamos drives me and my car to Worth, Natalie comes with us to help and Jawaad drives Chris's car back to ML. By this point I've done enough wiggling around of my ankle to come up with the sprain diagnosis - I can move it in all directions, there's not overwhelming pain when I do that (though I don't have full range of motion), and I can put a wee bit of weight on it, so nothing likely went pop. Anyway, Worth checks it out, gives me an Ace bandage, a pair of crutches, some painkillers, and some ice and says the campus orthopedist will be in Monday at 5. I plan on coming by. I come home, e-mail Vuchic and McGarity saying that I likely won't be in class tomorrow and, in Vuchic's case, that I won't have my paper done. I then talk to Alexanra, ask her to take notes, comment that the paper won't get done, at which point she tells me the paper isn't due until Wednesday. This will likely lead to Vuchic being confused, but so be it, he'll figure it out. The net result is that my platform paper will likely be handed in on time, Wednesday I'm going to be bundle of joy while I write my Carnival of the Animals paper.
nautiluspq comes by, says "you idiot, you idiot" several times over (oh, the compassion). She later comes by with the listening for 19th Century on an MP3, which I have her put in the CD player. This makes life better, becuase it's one less thing I have to do on campus tomorrow.
Overall, I think I'm taking this pretty well. It's going to be el suck for a few days, but I'll live, assuming I don't need any advanced care.
uncleamos just came by again, updating
ccommack and saying that I'm being "overmothered right now". It's sort of good to know that people are willing to fetch whatever I ask them to right now; I'll try not to abuse this power.

Date: 2004-12-06 07:17 am (UTC)Mark Handler was a skater bold,
and on the rink oft stood
but an ace on skates he was not quite
so an ace went on his foot
They bore him off the rink at once
when his foot began to swell
he knew what being well was worth
and at Worth they knew him well
He'll walk on crutches for few days
until the pain is killed
His ankle still does not feel right
so he'll write and keep it still
I should stop now.
