reldnahkramOk, so I said I'd keep this up to date, so I'll try.
Got to Cinci on Saturday night, just hung around, got set up. Sunday came, and so did Rob. He stumbled into the room about 10 AM, having driven all night from Massachusetts. He was very tired, and it showed. Just stumbling around, borderline coherent. He slept away most of the afternoon, then we went to a Mexican place for dinner. Giant burritos, things that legends are made of.
Monday we started working on the project. Longish meeting about the project, then shorter meeting with Rick, our grad student advisor. Tuesday we went to the plant where they prestressed the concrete beams. Prestressing basically puts opposite forces on the concrete beams, so that when they are loaded, they can hold more load because the first thing the load does is balance out the prestress load. Anyway, big concrete beams lying around, cool stuff. Came back, worked on presentation for Wednesday (www.sccs.swarthmore.edu/users/05/handler/Planning Report Presentation.ppt).
Presentation went well. Then spent an hour cutting and coiling wire. We needed 24 150 ft. strands for the project, so we marked 150 feet down the hallway and measured, cut and coiled. Fun stuff. This afternoon was the first part of the photo seminar. 3 hours of photo theory and such not. Then a few of us from the program went to the Reds game. Mariners won 2-0. Thought I heard Camera One play at one point between innings. Good times. Came back and put the XPN stream on. Nice to hear again.
People here are all pretty cool. Every one is easy going and interesting, good to talk to.
