The best part about last night's Crystal Lake run was that it wasn't my idea. But at 2 in the morning, where else in greater Philadelphia is there to get food - it's only 1/2 hour away? Highlights include [livejournal.com profile] think_too_much horrifying Mary with his coffee doctoring (cream and sugar), [livejournal.com profile] think_too_much's cream technique (bite the corner of the container, squeeze - I think [livejournal.com profile] uncleamos described it as like milking a cow), and [livejournal.com profile] think_too_much horrifying all of us with his tales of what should be done to a fresh ketchup bottle. There was also mass revulsion at the presence of Creed in the jukebox, we actually sat in the front section (who know - at 2 AM on a Wednesday they make the right side non-smoking), and nobody ordering anything absurd on their first visit (snapper soup, anyone?). And we managed not to take any pictures, not that I brought my camera. I haven't taken any pictures in a while; somehow I think this trend ends today.

Well, besides Tom Jones and Denny's, there are a few diners that are open 24 hours, though I don't remember which ones at the moment.

Well, yes, that's what Crystal Lake is. It just happens to be in Jersey. It's not a diner unless it's open 24-7.

Is IHOP still open 24x7?

For the most part, no. We went looking for one a few years back at about 11 PM, and the experience ended with [livejournal.com profile] redbeard68 running around the parking lot with no pants as [livejournal.com profile] neverseenbleu and I drove away.

...and this somehow led you not to try again? Sounds like a nearly ideal result to me.

Oh to have been there.

Even the one on the Pike? Pretty much everything that is ever open 24 hours is open 24 hours around there.

Oh, this was in Jersey, I have no idea what's open around here.

What's the geographical distribution for iHop IHOP? It just got to Rochester my senior year of high school, and I always thought that, like most chains not found in Rochester that I heard about growing up, it was a Midwest thing.

No, you just live in the boonies.

It is so convenient when someone asks a question that was discussed extremely recently in a blog you were reading! This comment suggests that IHOP versus something called Waffle House is a North/South divide. Do you have Waffle House in Rochester? Perhaps Rochester is an odd outpost of Southerness in NY? Or maybe you just don't have regional chain pancake places at all?

Anyway, IHOP has definitely been around in Queens since I was a very small child - before our mother's parents decided to make Sizzlers the default place to take me and [livejournal.com profile] greebsnarf out to eat, they used to take us to IHOP instead. And Queens is certainly not the Midwest.

I think we just don't have regional chain pancake places at all. It's interesting that Southern Illinois has IHOPs though, if there's a North/South divide.

*resists urge to attack people in defense of Rochester's poor nonexistent honor*

If regional chain pancake places are a sign of honor, then honor probably isn't worth worrying about to begin with. :)

I definitely remember eating at IHOP as a small child in California, and I think my parents were familiar with it from the NYC area prior to that.

There's been one in Plattsburgh as long as I can remember, so clearly Rochester is just deficient. :-)

Crystal Lake? With college people? Don't make my head explode!
Speeeeaaking of Jersey, when is your spring break? Mine's next week and I'll be around LEARNING TO DRIVE! You KNOW you want to hang out. And go to Crystal lake. And warn the small children when my car approaches.

Kaboooom! (that was your head)

Anyway, do you thihk I would go to Crystal Lake on a Wednesday night, er, Thursday morning, if I had class the next day? I'm on break now (nyah, nyah). I think I'm staying out of Jersey if you're learning to drive :). But let me know what's going on, we'll work something out.
